Bottom Discharge Systems

During dumping the load is discharged through openings in the bottom of the Trailing Suction Hopper Dredge. These openings can have different shapes and constructions.

The circular types are called Bottom Discharge Valves and the square ones are called Bottom Discharge Doors.

Bottom Discharge Doors

VOSTA LMG’s bottom discharge doors are a box-shaped rigid welded steel construction. Almost all bottom doors are custom made design as all the trailing suction hopper dredgers have a different size and shape and more important a different height level above the bottom door.

Bottom Discharge Valves

The bottom valves are steel circular constructions, that are vertically mounted in the hopper area. Its main part is the valve disc, which is a cone-shaped steel part with a rubber seal mounted in the bottom of the hull.

The bottom valve is operated by a double-acting hydraulic cylinder.
